It is our goal to provide compassionate, high-quality patient care in a setting dedicated to healing and wellness. That’s why at Oahu Spine & Rehab we combine physical medicine, chiropractic care, therapeutic modalities, rehabilitation and massage in one convenient location. No matter whether your condition is acute or chronic, your body must go through a healing process. At Oahu Spine & Rehab we work with you to relieve pain, correct the underlying problem, strengthen your body, and maintain wellness to prevent future injury. We call this progression “The Four Phases of Care.”

Depending on how your particular current condition presents, and the specifics of your medical history we design a treatment plan that will take you through these phases, ultimately leading to your optimal level of health and wellness.

Our first objective is to ease your pain and stop your condition from progressing. Along with pain, other symptoms you may experience include swelling, lack of motion, muscle spasms, loss of energy, activity limitations, or just not feeling yourself. A complimentary initial assessment will help guide you to appropriate services within our practice. It is often immediately followed by a thorough personalized and holistic treatment plan incorporating a variety of services to accurately diagnose the cause of your symptoms and provide an individualized treatment plan just for you.

After this phase your symptoms may appear to be gone and you may be temporarily relieved of pain, but it is imperative that you continue with us onto the next phases!

  • Reduce tissue inflammation
  • Increase flexibility

Once your pain is reduced and stabilized, we start to correct your underlying problem and increase your range of motion and overall function. We will work to reposition any joints and restore balanced function to your muscles. It is most important to keep up with your scheduled treatment plan during this phase to achieve as much correction and alignment as possible. Without completing the Correction phase, the root of your problem can return.

Following Phase 2, you should be able to handle a reasonable amount of activity and be prepared to advance to the strengthening phase to reach your treatment goals and solidify your progress.

Throughout all of the phases of care we are most likely working with you to do some strengthening of the muscles surrounding the affected area or injury. Muscles heal more quickly than tendons and ligaments so it is important to keep the muscles strong enough to help function while the tendons, ligaments, and your spine stabilize. The focus of this phase is to solidify your progress and prevent future injury.

The goal is to develop and balance your muscular strength with emphasis on joint and core stabilization for optimal functionality.

  • Increase muscular endurance

Once you have invested time and effort into achieving your goal of being fully functional and pain-free, we want to make sure you stay that way! It is not always realistic that the stressors or circumstances in your life that caused your condition will totally go away, so we don’t either! The first three phases were focused on your recovery, rehabilitation, and training to return you to your optimal functional level. The fourth phase of care is devoted to your sustained health. We will continue to work closely with you through wellness visits as needed. Our services are a vital part of the maintenance phase helping you to look and feel your best!
