Scoliosis Types & Treatments

A healthy spine will run straight down the middle of your back, a back that has a curve to the side is suffering from scoliosis. Scoliosis is when there is any curve more than 10 degrees in the spine. In most cases, our chiropractors will use the letter “S” or “C” to describe the shape of the spine. Common obvious symptoms are back pain, leaning to one side or the other, or uneven hips.

Usually scoliosis has no specific cause, when is called idiopathic scoliosis. When the scoliosis does have a cause, it is either nonstructural or structural. Some causes are Cerebral Palsy, Muscular Dystrophy, birth defects, and certain genetic conditions. Scoliosis will not go away on it’s own, and is not caused by poor posture, heavy lifting, or any other mis-use of the back.
