How to Burn Calories While Watching TV

When it comes to getting healthy, sometimes the easiest tricks are right under our noses. (1)

According to the American Medical Association, a study found that for every two hours that are spent in front of a TV, their risks of developing type 2 diabetes increases by 20% and their risks for heart disease can increase as much as 15%. Living a sedentary lifestyle can be as detrimental on your health as smoking or excessive drinking can be.

There are estimates that claim that the average American spends no fewer than five hours a day in front of the TV. Watching TV itself isn’t the harmful part, it’s the sitting around all day. If you aren’t exercising at all in your day, and you work a desk job; that means that you are spending almost every waking hour sitting down. Among other health problems, a sedentary lifestyle will greatly affect your joints and muscles. The less use that your joints get, the weaker they get and the more prone you will be to pain and injuries.

Lucky for your body, there are plenty of options out there to keep busy while watching TV. One awesome option is to get an exercise bike or other cardio machine for your TV room. Having this machine staring at you while you’re watching TV, might just get you motivated to run and watch instead of lounging on the couch. If this isn’t in the budget or your place doesn’t quite have enough square feet, try a TV body workout like this:
