avocado kailua

Avocados seem to be running the world. They may not have a cape and crown but in the age of social media, this green fruit is taking the world (and Instagram) by storm. Not only are avocados delicious, but they’re also packed full of vitamins and good healthy fats. In fact, it has been dubbed a “superfood” by health junkies and fitness experts.
Here at Oahu Spine & Rehab in Kailua, a lot of our patients are athletic or active, and our staff is too! Often times you’ll see five avocados a day passing through our breakroom. So why are avocados so important?
According to nutritiondata.self.com, avocados provide you with the following:

Vitamin K: 26% of the RDA.
Folate: 20% of the RDA.
Vitamin C: 17% of the RDA.
Potassium: 14% of the RDA.
Vitamin B5: 14% of the RDA.
Vitamin B6: 13% of the RDA.
Vitamin E: 10% of the RDA.

Then it contains small amounts of Magnesium, Manganese, Copper, Iron, Zinc, Phosphorous, Vitamin A, B1 (Thiamine), B2 (Riboflavin) and B3 (Niacin).
So what does all of this mean? Avocados are good for you. Ringing in at 160 calories, 2 grams of protein with 15 grams of healthy fats, it’s safe to say that an avocado a day can keep the doctor away. 15 grams of fat may have you grimacing, but it’s crucial to remember that they are packed full of healthy fats such as oleic acid. Healthy fats are great for your heart, hair, and skin. Avocados also have almost 1/3 of the recommended daily value of fiber.
Avocados are easy to add into every meal because their flavor can be so versatile. Some people think that avocados are made just for guacamole, which is not the case at all. Avocados can be delicious for breakfast, lunch or dinner! Here are some examples:
