Anxiety is one of the most common “invisible disorders” that are out there. Whether it’s social anxiety, panic anxiety or stress anxiety, it can truly control the lives of those who go through it. Anxiety increases the chances of depression, suicide and disability. Not to mention it can be detrimental to your social life.
Did you know that you’re more likely to have anxiety as a woman in North America verses anywhere else in the world? A new study shows that women are more likely to suffer from anxiety than men. Most mental health conditions are more likely to appear in women. People under the age of 35 are also more likely to have anxiety symptoms than the older population. Anxiety often times shows up alongside other mental and neurological illnesses. This includes everything from autism, schizophrenia and multiple sclerosis. According to a study in 2015, almost 32% of people who have MS also suffer from multiple sclerosis.
So what can OSR do to help?
Here at our integrated health center, our massage therapists are here to help. If you are suffering from anxiety, a massage will target the areas where you carry the most tension and stress in your body. Massages increase your body’s levels of the chemical oxytocin which in turn can help lower your stress levels. Massage is commonly used for relaxation but with relaxation comes relief from stress and anxiety. By utilizing trigger point massage therapy in our treatment plans for our patients we offer a more focused approach to relieving stress in the areas where it has built up.’
Chiropractic care is another service that we offer that could offer some relief for anxiety and stress. When your spine is out of alignment or suffering from subluxations, it is not going to be functioning to its highest power. During chiropractic treatment, patients here at OSR generally feel an immediate release of tension in their neck and spine. This release of built up tension in your spine can be a great wave of stress relief as well as helping your anxiety levels go down.
